If you have been following along on our tutorial, you will have gathered your supplies (part 1), and sewn your body (part 2). Now we will be stuffing our body with wool. I am only doing bite sized chunks each day to allow for everyone to be able to keep up, or to catch up if they are behind.
When stuffing your body, you will want to use a nice fluffy and lofty wool. I use batting for bodies (and tend to use roving for the head, though batting or roving works for both the head and body!)
Using a chopstick, begin stuffing the body with your wool, paying careful attention to the thumbs! You want to fill the body only up to the navel area, and then the arms up to the shoulders. This will leave space for the muff of the head to fit in, and you can add additional stuffing as you attach your head.
You will want to stuff your body as firmly as possible. Wool will compact down as it is played with, and if you stuff it lightly it will become very soft very quickly.
You can see here that I filled my mermaid body up to the chest (a little too full, I should have filled it slightly less). The arms are filled firmly all the way to the shoulders.
Once you have your doll to this point, you will be ready to start on the head tomorrow! Part 4 can be found here!
Thanks for joining me in creation!
