Welcome to part 7 of my free waldorf doll tutorial! If you are new to the tutorial and would like to read all of the previous parts here they are:
Now that we have our dolls almost finished it is time to make a cute little belly button and bum to finish off the body! This is a very quick and simple method but turns out so cute.
Step 1: Take your adorable doll and grab a 3″ doll making needle and coordinating thread to your body colour. Thread your needle with 4x thread thickness (double your thread and then double again). This will make the thread strong.
Step 2: Go into the doll where you want your belly button, and come out at the groin (slightly behind the stitch line). Leave a tail at the belly button.
Step 3: Come up around the bum and go back through the doll at the top of the bum, coming out at the belly button again. The thread between the groin and the top of the bum forms the little bum “crack”.
Step 4: pull snugly
Step 5: Begin going around the belly button similar in technique to forming the doll’s nose. Once you have formed a full circle, pull as gently and tightly as you can. The force of your pull will do two things, it will form the bum as well as the belly button.
Step 6: Make sure the bum has been formed before you tie off the belly button. If it has not, pull tighter (but gently, you don’t want to rip your fabric!)
Step 7: When the bum has been formed to your liking, tie off your belly button. Make sure it is tied well. You can then bury your threads by threading each end of the tie, pulling the thread back through the doll with your needle and snipping the thread off close to the skin.
And that is it! Soon I will be doing a clothing tutorial and a couple of free clothing patterns (including shoes!). Thanks for reading!
